From Dashboards to Generative Apps

Dashboards have been the default way to share data for years. They work well, as long as your questions stay the same. But questions change all the time, and a dashboard can only answer the ones it was built for. Every new question means waiting for someone to rebuild it.

That's where generative apps come in. They let you move beyond predefined views and build interactive experiences around the questions you need to answer. In Trulyp, you describe what you need to Vizzy, the AI assistant, which helps you build a working app using your connected data.

Start with a question

Let's see how it works with a sales director who wants to understand sales performance. They start with a simple ask in plain language: a two-page sales drill-down with a navigation bar. Page one is an overview with filters, KPI cards for sales, profit and profit ratio, sales by region and a monthly trend. Page two holds the details. Clicking a region on the overview opens the details page filtered to that region.

Vizzy doesn't just start building. It presents a plan first, giving the director the opportunity to approve it or request revisions. The director stays in control of what gets built. One approval later, Vizzy works out the app structure and builds both pages, including real navigation between them.

The result: a working app, not a mock-up

The overview shows the big picture: US$273.7M in sales, US$34.7M in profit, a 12.7% profit ratio, sales by region and five years of monthly trend.

Click West, and the details page opens filtered to that region: sales and profit by category, the most profitable products, and every order behind the numbers.

The director now has a clear view of what happened. But what about what's next? To understand whether the business is on track to hit its targets, they need to move from reviewing performance to planning ahead.

From looking back to planning ahead

The director asks the real question and turns the dashboard into a planning app. They ask for a third page, Planning, with a forecast for the rest of the year and an editable table where managers enter their planned sales for each region.

Vizzy adds it to the same app, in the same style. The plan is written back, so it lives next to the data instead of in a spreadsheet in someone's inbox.

Now the regional managers fill in their numbers. They type straight into the Sales Plan table: 43,000 for South, 10,000 for Central, 3,400 for East. Each value saves as they go, and the Planned Sales by Region chart updates instantly. Need a region that isn't there yet? Add a row. North East goes in with a plan of 30,000, and it shows up in the chart right away.

The plan now sits alongside the forecast and actuals in the same app, ready for the team to review and refine as conditions change.

Less back-and-forth. Faster iterations. More time for insights.

Keep shaping it

The app works, but the director wants to see the plan as a trend across regions, not a set of bars. Instead of navigating through editing menus, the director can simply select the chart and tell Vizzy what they'd like to change:

"Change it to a line chart."

Vizzy updates the visual settings, keeps the same data and fields, and saves the change. The bar chart becomes a line chart, and nothing else on the page moves.

Every iteration starts with your idea. Describe what you want to change, review the result, and keep shaping the app around the way your team works.
